ADVANCING AFFORDABLE, HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH CARE

A strong health care system is essential to Minnesota’s quality of life and economic competitiveness. Employers, employees, and families all benefit when care is accessible, affordable, and focused on better outcomes.

Minnesota has long been a leader in health care, with strong institutions, high rates of coverage, and a history of innovation. But rising costs continue to put pressure on employers, families and the state budget. Sustaining Minnesota’s leadership will require policies that improve affordability while preserving access, quality, and innovation.

As part of MBP’s Growth Agenda, our health care priorities are guided by three principles:

Principles for Growth

  • Improve affordability and value. Minnesota should pursue policies that slow the growth of health care costs while maintaining access to high-quality care.
  • Promote innovation and competition. Public policy should support a responsive health care marketplace and avoid unnecessary mandates or regulations that increase costs or limit new approaches to coverage and care delivery.
  • Align incentives around better outcomes. Payment and policy should reward quality, efficiency, and improved health outcomes while giving employers and consumers better information to make informed decisions.
