Policy Director
About the Role:
The Policy Director will lead the development and execution of strategic policy initiatives that support the vitality and growth of Minnesota’s business community. This role serves a statewide organization representing CEOs of Minnesota’s largest employers and works closely with members, their delegates, lawmakers, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Policy Committees: Manage up to two MBP Policy Committees. Collaborate with chairs and members to set legislative priorities and identify non-legislative opportunities. Organize 2–4 committee meetings annually and provide timely issue updates.
- Advance Legislative Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to support or oppose priority legislation. Deliver public testimony and represent MBP interests at legislative hearings and other forums.
- Build Strategic Relationships: Maintain strong connections with legislators, state agencies, MBP members, and other stakeholders. Identify opportunities to translate policy goals into actionable practices and laws.
- Community Engagement: Partner with community organizations to assess industry systems and recommend improvements, including non-legislative solutions.
- Representation & Advocacy: Represent MBP on state, regional, and local task forces and advisory groups. Serve as a resource for media and share MBP perspectives.
- Communications Support: Provide concise, timely updates for the CEO and Communications Director for media opportunities and board presentations.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum 3 years in public policy with a strong understanding of the legislative process.
Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment when engaging with business leaders, lawmakers, and media.
- Proven ability to lead initiatives and work independently.
- Skilled at managing multiple projects under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications and professional use of social media tools.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: $120,000–$145,000, based on experience.
